Article 17: Named Holidays
Full-time Employees shall be eligible to receive a day off with pay on or for the following Named Holidays:
New Year's Day
Alberta Family Day
Good Friday
Victoria Day
Canada Day
August Civic Holiday
Labour Day
Thankskgiving Day
Remembrance Day
Christmas Day
Boxing Day
and all general holidays proclaimed to be a Statutory Holiday by any of the following levels of Government authority:- the Province of Alberta, and
- the Government of Canada.
In addition to the foregoing Named Holidays, full-time Employees who are in the employ of the Employer on January 1st of each calendar year shall be granted an additional “floater” holiday in that calendar year. The “floater” holiday shall be taken at a time to be mutually agreed upon by the Employer and the Employee.
- No payment shall be due for the Named Holiday which occurs during a leave of absence during which an Employee is not paid.
- To qualify for a Named Holiday with pay, the Employee must:
- work their scheduled shift immediately prior to and immediately following the holiday except where the Employee is absent due to illness or other reasons acceptable to the Employer;
- work on the Named Holiday when scheduled to do so.
- An Employee obliged to work on a Named Holiday shall be paid for all hours worked on the Named Holiday at time and one half (1 1/2X) their Basic Rate of Pay plus:
- an alternate day off at a mutually agreed time; or
- by mutual agreement, a day added to their next annual vacation; or
- by mutual agreement, the Employee may receive payment for such day at their Basic Rate of Pay.
- When a Named Holiday falls during an Employee’s annual vacation, such holiday may, by mutual agreement, be added to the vacation period, or the alternate day off shall be dealt with as set out in Clause 17.04.
- When a Named Holiday falls on a day that would otherwise be an Employee’s regularly scheduled day of rest, the Employee shall receive an alternate day off as outlined in Article 17.04.
