Grievances

When is filing a grievance important?

Most collective agreements have a formal process built in for dispute-resolution that requires a discussion with the employer before a grievance can be filed.

Because grievances are complex and lengthy processes, every attempt is made to resolve disputes before taking this step. In addition to discussions with the employer, there are other options to resolve workplace problems. These can include mediation, facilitation and education.

If it’s clear that these options won’t work, your union can file a grievance.
