Committees

Joining a member committee is one of the many ways you can shape your Union!

We have two types of committees at HSAA. Standing Committees are permanent committees, outlined in our Constitution and Board Mandated committees that are formed at the direction of the Board to work on priority areas identified by our membership.

Standing Committees

Standing committees are permanent committees of our Union as outlined in our Constitution.

Constitution, Bylaws, Resolutions & Policy Committee

This committee reviews and works on the documents that drive the work of our Union – that’s the constitution, bylaws, policies and resolutions.

Elections/Credentials Committee

This committee helps ensure elections are conducted according to the constitution and policies and procedures, and encourages participation in elections.

Finance Committee

This committee works together to advise the Board on matters of the Union’s finances and propose the HSAA budget for the coming year.

Member's Appeals & Review Committee

This committee participates in the member complain process, and ensures that all members are represented in accordance with the duty of fair representation.

Members' Benefits Committee

This committee reviews, oversees and works to improve HSAA member funds, bursaries, discounts, and benefits to support the Union’s strategic plan.

Workplace Health, Safety & Wellness Committee

This committee works to update policy and position statements, and promote the right to a safe and healthy workplace and participation in local JWHS committees.

Discipline Committee

This committee hears and makes decisions on a complaint of a constitutional breach, following the rules of natural justice.

Board Mandated Committees

Board Mandated committees are not constitutional committees, but rather formed at the direction of the Board to work on priority areas identified by our membership. They can be Discretionary or Ad Hoc committees.

Addictions and Mental Health Committee

This committee play a critical role in HSAA’s advocacy and awareness campaigns, focusing on the life-saving benefits of treatment and overdose prevention.

Governance Committee

This committee's primary objective is to promote good governance practices and support the Board of
Directors in fulfilling their responsibilities effectively.

Local Unit Review Committee

This committee is working on reshaping our Union at the local level by reviewing the current Local Unit program and identifying goals for effective Local Units.
