Article 43: Regulatory Practice Review Procedure
- The Parties recognize that emergency medical services professions are required to practice within their regulatory standards of practice.
- The Parties agree that patient safety is best achieved when there is a process that allows Employees to bring forward concerns related to practice issues that may contravene their regulatory standards of practice.
- The Parties therefore agree as follows:
- Discussion
In the event an Employee in a regulated profession is directed to perform duties which may contravene their regulated standards of practice, an Employee shall first discuss the issue with their Manager. - Documentation
If the issue is not resolved following discussions with the Manager, the Employee shall provide documentation detailing how the issue may contravene their standards of practice to the Administrator or designate. - Consultation
Based on a review of the documentation, the Parties may consult with the Alberta College of Paramedics regarding the issue.
Following a review of the documentation and the consultation, the Administrator or designate will communicate the outcome to the Employee. - Evaluation
The Parties will meet no later than one (1) year following the date of ratification of the Collective Agreement to discuss the operation of this Articleto assess potential modifications. The Parties may jointly recommend changes to the Article to their respective principals as a result of these discussions.
