Article 31: Temporary Assignments
- Acting Supervisors
- When an Employee is requested to perform the duties of a Supervisor, they shall be paid, in addition to their hourly rate as set out in the Salary Scale, a premium amount of two dollars and twenty-five cents ($2.25) per hour for the entire shift. Such payment shall apply to all active working hours, including overtime. Where an extension beyond three (3) months is required, the Employer shall advise the Union and request an extension. Such requests shall not be unreasonably denied.
- To obtain a pool of employees to be used as Acting Supervisors the Employer shall post expressions of interest at the station where such Acting Supervisor’s are needed outlining the expectation and requirements of the position consistent with Article 18.01 (d). Employees who apply to fill Acting Supervisor roles shall be selected as per Article 18.05.
- Should any Employee not wish to work as Acting Supervisor, such wishes shall not be held against them.
- Acting Supervisors shall not be used to prevent the posting and awarding of Permanent or Temporary Supervisor positions in accordance with Article 18.01 (a).
- Any Acting Supervisors shall be provided with a corporate cell phone while on duty.

- During periods of Temporary Assignment as per this Article 31, an Employee so assigned will receive overtime and call-back premiums based on the Temporary Assignment hourly rate.
- Out of Scope Positions
When an Employee is assigned to replace another person in an out-of-scope position at a more senior level for one (1) full shift or longer, but less than eighteen (18) months the Employee shall be paid an additional three dollars ($3.00) per hour. An Employee so assigned shall continue to be covered by the terms and conditions of the Collective Agreement and pay Union Dues. Seniority shall remain intact. - Should an Employee accept a Temporary out-of-scope position which requires them to perform the full extent of an out-of-scope position, including tasks related to Article 25, the Employee shall be paid as per the Employer’s out-of-scope pay scale. While the Employee is out-of-scope, they shall not benefit from any terms and conditions of the Collective Agreement, including Seniority. Upon completion of the assignment, the Employee shall be returned to their former position. The return date shall be the Employee’s new seniority date.
- During periods of Temporary Assignment as per Article 31, an Employee so assigned will receive overtime and call-back premiums based on the Temporary Assignment hourly rate.
- Temporary Out-Of-Scope as per Article 31.02 may take part in workplace investigations at the exception of Article 25.10. They shall not discipline, terminate or promote other In-Scope employees.
