Article 16: Named Holidays

  1.  
    1. Permanent and Temporary Employees shall be compensated for the following Named Holidays based on basic rate of pay:

      New Year's Day
      Family Day
      Good Friday
      Victoria Day
      Canada Day
      August Civic Day
      Labour Day
      National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
      Thanksgiving Day
      Remembrance Day
      Christmas Day
      Boxing Day

    2. And all general holidays proclaimed by any of the following: a Municipal Government, the Province of Alberta, or the Government of Canada.
  2. To qualify for a Named Holiday with pay, the Employee must:
    1. Work their scheduled shift immediately prior to and immediately following the holiday except where the Employee is absent due to illness or other reasons acceptable to the Employer; and
    2. Work on the holiday when scheduled or required to do so.
  3. An Employee obliged in the course of duty to work on a named holiday shall be paid for all core and flex hours on a named holiday at two times (2X) their basic rate in addition to Article 16.01 and subject to Article 16.02.
  4.  
    1. Where the major portion of the shift falls within the named holiday the shift in its entirety will be deemed to be paid in accordance with Article 16.03.
    2. Where the shift starts at noon, the Named Holiday pay shall be paid on the day the shift starts.
  5. When a named holiday falls during an Employee’s annual vacation:
    1. Such holiday(s) shall be considered day(s) in lieu and such day(s) shall not be debited from the Employees vacation bank and;
    2. Shall be used on the first scheduled shift preceding or following the vacation, or an alternate day off at a mutually agreeable time.
  6. No payment shall be due for a Named Holiday which occurs during:
    1. a layoff; or
    2. all forms of leave during which an Employee is not paid; or
    3. an Employee is receiving paid sick leave, Workers' Compensation benefits, short term disability, or long term disability income.
  7. In addition to Named Holidays in Article 16.01 each Full-Time Employee shall have one (1) Floater Day that may be utilized as a day in lieu. The Floater Day will be made available January 1st of each year and if not used will be paid out after December 31 of that same year.
