Article 6: Hours of Work

  1. The normal hours of work for regular and temporary full-time Employees exclusive of an unpaid meal period are:
    1. seven and one-half (7 1/2) hours per day;
    2. thirty-seven and one-half (37 1/2) hours per week;
    3. Modified work week may be implemented when mutually agreed upon by the Employer and the Union.  Such agreement will be documented by the parties.
  2. Hours of work will be deemed to:
    1. include, as scheduled by the Employer, two (2) rest periods of fifteen (15) minutes each during each seven and one-half (7 1/2) hour work shift; provided that, if overtime is required to be performed for a period of at least two (2) hours after the end of the regular seven and one-half (7 1/2) hour work shift, another rest period of fifteen (15) minutes shall be included which shall be scheduled by the Employer before the overtime work commences;
    2. include, as scheduled by the Employer, one (1) rest period of fifteen (15) minutes during each shift of not less than three and three-quarter (3 ¾) hour work period;
    3. exclude an unpaid meal period of a minimum of thirty (30) minutes, or up to a maximum of sixty (60) minutes, as scheduled by the Employer during each workday where the Employee works in excess of six (6) hours, unless otherwise mutually agreed between the Employer and the Employee.
    4. On mobile clinics, the Employer shall endeavour to schedule meal periods commencing between the hours of eleven hundred (1100) hours and fourteen hundred (1400) hours for the lunch break and commencing between the hours of sixteen hundred (1600) hours and nineteen hundred (1900) for the dinner break.  Employees will not be required to work more than six (6) consecutive hours without a meal break unless otherwise mutually agreed between the Employee and Employer.
    5. In the event that the Employee is not provided with or is recalled to duty during their meal or rest periods, time off shall be provided later in the shift.  If time off cannot be provided, the Employee shall be paid at the overtime rate set out under Article 9.01 instead of their basic rate of pay for time worked during such occasions.
