LETTER OF UNDERSTANDING #23

BETWEEN

COVENANT HEALTH
(hereinafter referred to as the Employer)

- and -

HEALTH SCIENCES ASSOCIATION OF ALBERTA
(hereinafter referred to as the Union)

RE:  CONSIDERING OPTIONAL SCHEDULING SYSTEMS

The Parties wish to establish a protocol for considering the possible implementation, for any suitable departments, Sites or programs, of the optional scheduling system provided for in Articles 11.02 and 44.04.

The Union or the Employer shall present a proposal to implement the optional scheduling system. Before doing so they shall ensure:

(a)  There is general Employee support within the applicable department, Site, or program, for the implementation of the optional schedule.

(b)  It has prepared proposals for implementing such an optional schedule that, as far as is known and feasible, will meet the Employer’s operational requirements.

Within forty-five (45) days of the presentation of such a proposal the Union and the Employer shall meet to discuss the feasibility and acceptability of the proposed schedule, considering the interests of the affected Employees and the Employer’s operational requirements. Where possible they will seek to arrive at a schedule that would be mutually acceptable.

The Parties, having discussed whether and in what way the schedule is to be implemented shall then indicate their willingness to provide the mutual consent provided for in Article 11.03 and 44.04.

The Parties will discuss possible additional guidelines for carrying out this Letter of Understanding at Joint Committee.

This Letter of Understanding will expire March 31, 2024, or upon the date of ratification of the next Collective Agreement, whichever is later.
