Article 6: Union Security and Union Dues

  1. Membership in the Union is voluntary;
    1. Notwithstanding the provisions of Article 6.01, the Employer will deduct from the gross earnings of each Employee covered by this Collective Agreement an amount equal to the dues as specified by the Union, provided the deduction formula is compatible with the accounting system of the Employer. Such deductions shall be forwarded to the Union, or its authorized representative, not later than the fifteenth (15th) day of the month following and shall be accompanied by a list showing the name and classification of the Employees from whom deductions have been taken and the amount of the deductions and gross earnings of each Employee. Such list shall indicate newly hired and terminated Employees, and, where the existing computer system is capable, status of Employees, the increment level and Employees reclassified, promoted or transferred outside the scope of this Collective Agreement and the address of Employees.

  2. Dues will be deducted from an Employee during sick leave with pay and during
    a leave of absence with pay.

  3. The Union shall give not less than thirty (30) days’ notice of any change in the rate at which dues are to be deducted. The Employer will record the amount of the Union dues deducted on the T4 forms issued to an Employee for income tax purposes.

  4. The Union shall give not less than thirty (30) days' notice of a Special Assessment deduction.

  5. An electronic copy of monthly dues that are outlined in Article 6.02 above shall be supplied to the Union.
