LETTER OF UNDERSTANDING #1

BETWEEN

REXALL PHARMACIES ULC
(hereinafter referred to as the Employer)

- and -

HEALTH SCIENCES ASSOCIATION OF ALBERTA
(hereinafter referred to as the Union)

RE:  PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND LIFESTYLE ACCOUNT (PDLA) 
 

Full Time and Part Time Employees shall continue to participate in the Professional Development and Lifestyle Account programs as established by the Company.

Full Time and Part Time Employee shall have access to a Professional Development and Lifestyle Account (PDLA) as follows: 

  1. Re-imbursement of up to a maximum of seven hundred and fifty dollars ($750.00) annually towards any approved continuing education or health and dental expenses used for:

    1. Health and Dental Expenses:  Reimbursement for health and dental expenses that are eligible medical expenses in accordance with the Income Tax Act and are not covered in whole by the benefit plans specified in Article 23 of the Collective Agreement.

    2. Access to accredited on-line learning and/or approved pharmacy resources.

  2. Re-imbursement of up to a maximum of two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00) annually towards approved lifestyle expenses which are: fitness centre memberships, instructed fitness classes, sports club fees, and fitness/sports instruction. 

Full Time and Part Time Pharmacists are provided reimbursement for professional fees required to maintain their annual license to practice pharmacy.  Such fees shall be covered by the terms of this letter, prior to any eligible professional development or healthcare expenses.

Full Time and Part Time Pharmacy Technicians are provided reimbursement for professional fees required to maintain their annual license to practice pharmacy.  Such fees shall be covered by the terms of this letter, prior to any eligible professional development or healthcare expenses.

The PDLA shall be implemented and administered in accordance with the Income Tax Act and applicable regulations in effect as they may exist from time to time.
