Article 4: Dues Deduction and Union Membership
- Membership in the Union is voluntary.
- Notwithstanding the provisions of Article 4.01, the Employer will deduct from the Gross Earnings (exclusive of long-term disability) of each Employee covered by this Collective Agreement an amount equal to the dues as specified by the Union. Such deductions shall be forwarded to the Union, or its authorized representative, not later than fifteen (15) days following the end of the biweekly pay period and shall be accompanied by an electronic list showing the name, classification, status (regular, temporary or casual) of the Employees, their salary scale step, date of hire and the amounts of the dues deductions. Such list shall include home mailing address and indicate newly hired and terminated Employees.
- Dues will be deducted from an Employee during sick leave with pay and during leave of absence with pay.
- The Union shall give not less than thirty (30) days’ notice of any change in the rate at which dues are to be deducted, and as much notice as possible of a Special Assessment deduction.
- The Employer will record the amount of Union dues and Special Assessments deducted on the T-4 forms issued to an Employee for income tax purposes.
