Article 34: In-Service Programs

  1. In-Services
    1. The parties to this Collective Agreement recognize the value of continuing in-service education for Employees in the various professions and that the responsibility for such continuing education lies not only with the Employer but also with the Employee.  For the purpose of this Article, the term “in-service” includes: orientation, acquisition and maintenance of essential skills, and other programs which may be offered by the Employer.
    2. The Employer reserves the right to identify specific in-service sessions as being compulsory for Employees and those required to attend such sessions shall be paid at the applicable rate of pay for attendance.
    3. Employees may attend in-service programs which are not identified as compulsory by the Employer, without loss of regular earnings, based on operational requirements and provided prior approval is received from the Employer.
    4. Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) re-certification shall be made available at no charge to those Employees who must maintain current CPR certification as a condition of employment.  Employees who are identified by the Employer as having to attend the session shall be paid at the applicable rate of pay.
