Policy Grievance Update: APL PSC vacation planner process

HSAA has received a number of concerns on the Vacation Planner Process at APL PSC Sites. The concern is that in many cases, vacation planners are posted for the whole site with all Classifications grouped together. We have tried to get clarity from APL as to how this will impact your selections and approvals, however APL has been elusive to our questions.

Our understanding is that APL has traditionally calculated, posted and approved vacations based on each respective Classification within each site.

Due to the uncertainty with this process, HSAA has filed a Policy Grievance on this matter. However, we understand this may not be resolved before the vacation planners come down or approvals/denials occur. As such, we encourage you to make your vacation selection based on your Classification within your Site and in alignment with the Collective Agreement.

Should you be denied your Vacation Selection, your first step would be to have a conversation with your manager. If the matter is still unresolved at that point, and you feel that APL has violated their own policy/process and/or the Collective Agreement, please contact your Labour Relations Officer as there may be a need to file individual grievances if it is deemed you have been unreasonably denied your Vacation Selection.

An email containing a link to the full policy grievance was sent to all APL PSC Members on Thursday, February 13. Members interested in viewing the grievance in full can access it via that email or by reaching out to their Labour Relations Officer.

If you have any further questions, please reach out to your respective Labour Relations Officer.
