Important Election Information
Changes to the election process
Following the passing of Resolution #17 by members at HSAA's 2026 Annual Convention, Board elections will now use a ranked-ballot voting system.
- Voters will rank candidates in order of preference on a single ballot.
- To be elected a candidate must receive more than 50 per cent of the vote.
- If no candidate receives 50 per cent in the initial count, the candidate with the fewest votes will be eliminated. Ballots cast for eliminated candidates will then be transferred to the next-ranked candidate indicated on those ballots. This will continue until one candidate receives more than 50 per cent of the vote.
Calgary District Voting & Candidates
Voting in the Calgary District by-election for the first of two Board Members will open on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, and close on Tuesday, July 7 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (noon) MST.
An election for the second of two Board Members will open Wednesday, July 8, 2026 and close on July 15, 2026, 12:00 p.m. (noon) MST.

Why are there two voting periods?
- Under Resolution #17, when two Board positions are vacant, separate consecutive elections must be held for each position.
- As a result, two voting periods will be conducted. The same candidates will appear on both ballots, except the candidate elected in the first vote. All remaining candidates will automatically continue to the second vote and do not need to take any action to remain on the ballot.
Calgary District Voting Details
On June 30, you will receive an email from ElectionBuddy, our online voting platform, to vote for the first Board member. They are a third-party voting system that keeps individual responses confidential and only aggregated results are provided to HSAA.
On July 8, you will receive a second email from ElectionBuddy to vote for the second Board member.
Watch your inbox carefully – and check your junk or spam folders. To ensure delivery of this email, we recommend you add invitations@mail.electionbuddy.com to your safe sender list.
