Time and time again, I have witnessed the profound impact of a strong and informed union on the everyday lives of its members and the communities they operate in. It is a testament to the power of collective action and solidarity. I have made it my personal mission to ensure that people within my sphere of influence understand what opportunities their union offers them, how their union can assist them, and in return how they can help their union.
Every one of our collective agreements are the fruit of many hours of research and negotiations on behalf of the members they affect. For all the good they offer, they are worth very little to those who do not know what rights and privileges are afforded to them through their agreement.
As both a local unit representative and a steward, I have been deeply involved in the workings of our union, and it is time for me to do more. My focus as a board member will be to increase awareness of the fantastic tools you already have at your disposal both through the union constitution and your collective agreement. These tools have been meticulously crafted thanks in part to the hard work of those who have served in this role past and present. While I will learn from them directly, I am committed to continuing and furthering their work to ensure HSM continues to be a union its members can be proud to have represent them.
A well-functioning board involves members from all walks of life, across multiple disciplines, and every age group. We must always be passing the torch.
Your support is crucial. I hope you will support me in my bid to be your voice at the table. Your union is listening; let me help you be heard.
If you have not signed up to be a member, it is never too late or early in your career to sign up. This will allow you to fully make use of the bountiful resources your union offers you and allow your voice to be heard when it is time to vote. Paying dues does not make you a member.
Working together, united, we will make a difference.
