Hello, my name is Nicky Thorn, and I am excited to announce my candidacy
for the Edmonton District Board position.

You may recognize me, or perhaps my dog, from various HSAA events
throughout the years. I might have also had the chance to meet you when I
drew your blood. I do not hold it against you if you were scared, you do not
have to look. That is my job. I have been a lab worker since 2018, navigating
the challenges of multiple company names, public and private, and union
representation. Often these changes came with little to no notice or
understanding as to what the fallout would be. I understand the importance of
stability and security in our workplace, especially for young workers and
parents like myself.

I have witnessed firsthand how our union transforms what can often feel like
an impossible battle into a collective strength. We are a diverse group of
professionals, united under HSAA, able to fight for our rights, grieve
injustices, and improve the quality of life for all our members and the
communities we serve. I believe that knowledge is the glue that binds us
together. As your board member, I will work tirelessly to provide opportunities
for personal and professional growth, helping us all become stronger.

As a current Local Unit Representative and Steward for the Patient Service
Centres, I have committed to standing up against injustices in the workplace.
My goal is to extend my outreach beyond my worksite, ensuring every
member understands their rights and knows how to access the resources
available to them. It’s crucial for us to grow our membership so that
everyone can participate in the democratic process, including voting on their
collective agreement and potential job action.

No one should feel alone at work. If elected, I will actively reach out to
demonstrate the value of our union, ensuring that every member feels
supported. I invite you to join the conversation and share your experiences.
Your input is invaluable in shaping a stronger union.

Every vote matters, and I hope to count on your support. If you have not yet
signed up as a member or opted in to bill 32, I encourage you to do so. This
is your opportunity to fully access the resources your union provides and to
ensure your voice is heard in our collective decisions. Together, we can
create a vibrant, engaged union that advocates for every member.
Thank you for considering me as your representative. Let's work together to
build a stronger future for all of us.
