Hello, my name is Micheal Lockerby, and I'm stepping up for one of the Edmonton District Board spots this year.

I currently serve as Co-Chair of Edmonton Metro EMS, a dynamic and engaged membership that I'm proud to be part of. Many of you may recognize me from the countless HSAA events I attend each year or perhaps from the hallways of Edmontons ERs. And yes, I probably do look deep in thought, wondering, Why do RT's have such tiny rooms in the ED or Does lab get mileage for the kilometers they rack up pushing those carts?

Being in EMS, I know that every sector within HSAA faces its own unique challenges. I want to tackle those issues head-on from a different angle at the Board. I see this as an opportunity to advocate not just for EMS, but for all of us. My goal? To help switch on every member across HSAA and amplify our collective voice.

I'm a guy who finds meaning in music, and one song recently hit a little too close to home for me and my peers:

"Essential means expendable, they'll work you till you drop (x3), you're just human capital stock, there will always be someone to take your place."

Human Stock Capital by Mudhoney
Sound familiar? Because it should.

These lyrics reflect the harsh reality many of us face under our current employers. While I don't buy into the "always someone to take your place" part, I do know that far too often, we're treated like we're disposable. We deserve better, all of us.

Why vote for me?

I've grown and evolved in my time with EMS, I bring a consistent and determined voice that pushes for fairness and equity for all. I don't have all the answers, but I promise you this, if elected, I'll bring an energy and unwavering belief that something, sometime, somewhere will break in our favour.

But this isn't just about me. It's about us. Please take a listen to Megaphone by Rise Against.

We all have a voice, and we all have a vote. If I earn a seat at the Board, I won't be the only one speaking, I want all of us to carry the megaphone and shout into it together.

My Union Involvement:

Here's what I've been up to so far:

It all started when I was with CUPE getting my feet wet. Within Metro here is my resume :

Co-Chair, Edmonton Metro EMS 4+ years (also Steward 8 years & Treasurer and Group Rep before the Chair gig)

Edmonton Metro Shift Pick Committee & Co-Steward Deploying the Shift Pick

Alternate for JWHS

Monthly EMAC participant (If you don't attend EMACs, you should! And if you don't have one, let's talk, it's in your CBA.)

With HSAA:
HSAA Finance Committee (2x Member)

HSAA Members Benefits Committee

HSAA Local Unit Review Committee (Current)

HSAA Provincial Lobby Day

That's me. Let's chat, whether it is in the gym in the morning or the hot tub at an HSAA event in the evening. Or even somewhere in the hallways during our shifts.

In Solidarity,

Micheal Lockerby
