Elisabeth Ballermann Social Justice & Labour Relations Fund

The Elisabeth Ballermann Social Justice & Labour Relations fund is available to members for events and education related specifically to labour relations, unionism or social justice. Members in good standing may apply to have tuition fees, registrations or travel expenses covered up to $300 per fiscal year (March 1 to February 28). Note: All communication regarding applications for HSAA funds and bursaries will be done via the member’s personal email address.

Application Guidelines

  1. Only HSAA members in good standing are eligible to apply.
  2. The event being applied for must relate directly to labour relations, unionism or social justice.
  3. Only expenses for event registration, tuition feed or travel expenses are eligible. Salary replacement does not qualify.
  4. All applications and the required documents must be submitted within sixty (60) days of the event’s completion date.
  5. Applicants must attach to their application a copy of the receipt indicating fees paid. A cancelled cheque, money order receipt or credit card copy will not be accepted.
  6. Members will be able to apply for more than one grant per fiscal year (March 1 – February 28) to a maximum of $300.00. The completion date of the event exam will determine which fiscal year the application falls under. Maximum funding is subject to change from year to year.
  7. We may require additional documentation. In the event that further information is required, HSAA will be in contact with you via email.

Note: Only one fund or bursary will be awarded per registered course/program.

Common Reasons for Rejection of Applications

  1. The application was received more than sixty (60) days after course completion.
  2. The application was missing a copy of the receipt.
  3. Applicant is not a member of HSAA or is not a member in good standing.
  4. The course or exam is not related to labour relations, unionism or social justice.

The responsibility for resolution of any disputes in regard to eligibility or interpretation of these guidelines rests firstly with the Members’ Benefits Committee, and secondly with the Board, whose decision is final and binding. The Members’ Benefits Committee retains the right to change or amend these guidelines at any time it deems necessary.
