Right now, HSAA members are fighting for fair wages and better working conditions. But instead of listening, the government is demanding rollbacks to benefits and making insulting wage offers that don’t even come close to helping offset inflation.
It’s not a raise. In real terms, it’s a pay cut.
At a time when more than 80,000 Albertans are waiting for surgery and thousands more can’t access the care they need, the government has signalled they don’t believe in retaining and recruiting the professionals that support people every day in our hospitals and medical centres.
It’s a bad deal for them, and a bad deal for ALL Albertans.
Albertans are already seeing the impacts in their communities:
- Longer wait times for imaging and lab results
- Uncertain EMS response times
- Cancelled or delayed surgeries
- Insufficient support while in recovery
- Inadequate mental health and addiction services
To make things worse, the government is more focused on political scandals than fixing health care.
Recent allegations of political interference in for-profit surgical contracts have led to an Auditor General investigation. The entire AHS Board was fired for the second time in less than two years, and taxpayers are now on the hook for the government’s own mismanagement.
While fired health officials get millions in severance, frontline workers are supposed to accept less?
It’s time to invest dollars where we know they actually work — in the frontline professionals providing care IN YOUR COMMUNITY.
Enough is enough. It’s time to send a message: we can’t afford a health-care system that drives professionals out of Alberta.
