What's the Data on Women's Health?

The Canadian Women’s Foundation podcast “Alright, Now What?” dedicated their latest episode in honour of the International Day of Action for Women’s Health. This episode takes a quick dive – just under 15 minutes – into what recent data is showing about the women’s health gap.

The episode discusses how “In Canada, women spend 20% more time in poor health compared to men. And it’s not just reproductive health. Women-specific conditions are just 5% [...] of this gap,” and how prescribed treatments for asthma or stroke, for example, can be much less effective on a woman than on a man – just because it wasn’t studied.

This podcast episode is a quick look beneath the surface on how women can face more barriers to care based on their gender and how the study of biology defaults to the male body and the resulting impacts.
