September 1 Staff Transfers from AHS to Provincial Health Agencies/Corporations

HSAA has received confirmation that 5,367 health-care professionals represented by HSAA will be transferred from AHS to one of the newly created Provincial Health Agencies or Provincial Health Corporations as part of the Government of Alberta’s ongoing health care restructuring effective September 1, 2025. AHS will become a hospital service provider, reporting to Acute Care Alberta.

Impacted members can expect to receive an official transfer notice starting this week. These notices will contain further details specific to your position and new employer.

This transfer of members from AHS includes:

  • 3,809 members moving from EMS to “Emergency Health Services”, the new corporation that will oversee all aspects of EMS delivery in Alberta.
  • 1,009 members moving to “Assisted Living Alberta”, the new agency responsible for delivering home care, continuing care, and community palliative care.
  • 488 members moving to “Cancer Care Alberta”, the new corporation responsible for delivering cancer care services across the province.
  • 61 members transitioning to “Acute Care Alberta”, the new agency responsible for coordinating Alberta’s acute care strategy, standards, and oversight.

Your Collective Agreement remains in effect and all existing rights and protections continue to apply. HSAA continues to use every available tool we have to protect your rights and ensure stability during this time of change.

That includes the Letter of Understanding (LOU) negotiated in 2024, which gives members greater flexibility during transitions, ensuring:

  • You can apply for available positions and maintain seniority rights.
  • You can hold multiple positions and maintain benefits based on your total employment status.
  • All pre-approved vacation and shift exchanges will be honoured.
  • Your anniversary date and hours worked will continue toward your next increment.

If you have questions or need support through this process, your Union is here for you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your Labour Relations Officer (LRO) or contact our Member Resource Centre at 1-844-280-HSAA (4722) or mrc@hsaa.ca.
