Public Health Inspectors: Important Information Meeting on Bill 55

Like you, your Union was taken by surprise by the Government of Alberta’s recent announcement regarding the transfer of Public Health Inspectors from Alberta Health Services to the Ministry of Health.

The Government of Alberta did not consult with you, your Union, or Albertans before introducing Bill 55: The Health Statutes Amendment Act, 2025 which makes these amendments to the Public Health Act, as well as other changes affecting the ownership of public hospitals. The government has since signaled that it will limit debate on this bill in the Alberta Legislature, choosing to pass it quickly and without amendments.

HSAA President Mike Parker has issued a public statement on these matters which you can read here: Government Bill 55 opens the door to for-profit hospitals: HSAA President | Health Sciences Association of Alberta
