Your Bargaining Committee met with Prairie Emergency Medical Systems Inc. on December 15 to continue collective bargaining. We had three days of negotiations scheduled, with the goal of having focused discussions on our monetary proposals.
Unfortunately, bargaining concluded after only one day. Despite the patience and persistence of your Bargaining Committee, the employer’s proposals fell far short of what our members deserve and did not reflect the realities of your work or the rising cost of living.
As a result, your Bargaining Committee made the decision to proceed to formal mediation.
Why mediation?
Mediation is the next step in the process if the bargaining committee and the employer are unable to reach a tentative agreement through direct negotiations. It involves a neutral third party who assists us and the employer to reach an agreement.
What happens next?
- We are filing for mediation today.
- The assignment of a mediator can take some time, especially with the holiday season approaching.
- During this period, your Bargaining Committee will continue strengthening our position, so we are ready to resume negotiations as soon as mediation begins.
Have questions?
If you’d like to learn more about what formal mediation means and how the process works, please visit our Collective Bargaining FAQs. You can also contact us at bargaining@hsaa.ca.
We will continue to provide updates as they become available, and will notify members as soon as a mediator is assigned and new dates are scheduled.
Thank you for your ongoing support while we work to secure you the strongest agreement possible.
