FRESC Bargaining Committee Expression of Interest Call-out

HSAA served notice of our intent to begin collective bargaining with Foothills Regional Emergency Services Commission on September 8, 2025.

In preparation for these negotiations, HSAA is seeking volunteers from the membership interested in sitting on the HSAA Bargaining Committee.

The Bargaining Committee will consist of:

  • Two (2) HSAA members from your bargaining unit.

Two (2) HSAA Labour Relations Officers will also sit on the committee, one of which will act as the Chief Negotiator.

Bargaining Committee Overview

As a member of the Bargaining Committee, you participate in the collective bargaining process to help reach the best possible collective agreement for all affected members. You will bring your perspective and experience to the bargaining table and will represent the collective interests of your membership throughout the process.

Some examples of committee duties are:

  • Assess and refine proposals prepared by negotiators before submission to the HSAA Board or employer, ensuring alignment with the membership’s best interests.
  • Engage in bargaining discussions, prioritizing membership needs over personal views and supporting the committee in setting negotiation priorities.
  • Act as a communication link between the membership and Bargaining Committee by facilitating membership updates, guiding responses to inquiries and encouraging member feedback or participation.

Expression of Interest and Selection Process

Bargaining Committee members are selected through an application process whereby interested individuals submit an expression of interest, citing their experience and activities within the union. The HSAA Board of Directors approves all bargaining committee positions.

If the number of applicants is under or equal to the number of available positions the interested members names will be presented to your Board of Directors and additional members may be recommended by the Executive Director.

If there are more applicants than the number of positions available there will be an election.

This is in compliance with HSAA Policy 1.06.
