Essential Services Agreement Reached with AHS and Formal Mediation Scheduled

Your Labour Relations Team is updating all HSAA members on developments at our largest bargaining table, Alberta Health Services, as these negotiations have an impact on every other table currently in bargaining, as well as your Union as a whole.

An Essential Services Agreement (ESA) with AHS has been completed, and your negotiating team will return to the table for formal mediation with the employer.

An ESA outlines the obligations that both the Union and the employer agree to take on during a strike or lockout. This ensures essential services continue while respecting workers' rights. An ESA is required before formal mediation can begin.

The ESA was jointly signed and filed by HSAA and AHS last week and has been sent to the Alberta Labour Relations Board for review.

As such, we have been able to agree to a mediator and mediation dates with AHS.

Mediation has been tentatively scheduled for June 24, 25, 26, 27, and July 7 and 8.

Our Next Steps Are Critical

To learn more details about this ESA and the paths towards an agreement with AHS through mediation or a strike vote, we are asking all members to please attend one of the town halls with President Mike Parker and Vice-President Leanne Alfaro on May 6, 7 and 8, with opportunities at both noon and 7:00 p.m. each day.

To join a town hall, members can register by clicking here: Register Now for ESA Town Halls: Critical Updates You Need to Know.

Important Reminder: During mediation, developments in our collective bargaining process are under embargo. This means HSAA cannot share bargaining proposals or other details subject to the mediation process. Please refer to previous bargaining updates and the FAQ for the latest information.

HSAA will provide members with more details on this ESA as soon as possible, and further information on strike preparedness will be provided after the town hall meetings.
