We want to share an update with you about what is happening with your workplace. The Christenson Group of Companies, which includes your employer, Christenson Communities Ltd., is going through a court-supervised process to reorganize its business and avoid bankruptcy. We are watching the situation closely because it could impact you.
Some or all Christenson properties may be sold because of this process. Christenson properties are now up for sale.
We know this news may create worry and questions about the future of your workplace and your job. Please know that we are working closely with our lawyers to protect your rights and are prepared for whatever comes next.
Businesses with unionized employees are often bought and sold in Alberta. Under Alberta labour law, your union rights and collective agreement continue, even if a business is sold. If the same business is still operating, your union and collective agreement can continue with a new employer.
We are committed to supporting you now and in the future and will keep you informed as we learn more.
We are also pleased to announce that we have completed an Essential Services Agreement (ESA) with the employer, and the parties have filed it with the Alberta Labour Relations Board for review and approval. In a time of strike or lockout, an ESA lists services that are needed to protect the life, personal safety, or health of the public, or are necessary to maintain and administer the rule of law or public security.
Please contact us if you have any questions about these matters. Reach out to Ewa Defazio at ewad@hsaa.ca, Karen Caig at kCaig@hsaa.ca.
