Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) Members vote to ratify Collective Agreement

HSAA members who are covered under the Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) Agreement have voted to ratify the Tentative Agreement reached on January 13, 2026. 

Of eligible members who cast their ballot, 56.93% voted in favour of accepting the agreement. With 3,738 ballots cast, voter turnout was 62%.

The agreement will be in effect as of January 27, 2026, and covers the period of October 1, 2024, to September 30th, 2028. 

The agreed upon wage increases are as follows: 

  • Effective October 1, 2024: 3% for all classifications / all steps (retroactive)
  • Effective October 1, 2025: 3% for all classifications / all steps (retroactive)
  • Effective October 1, 2026: 3% for all classifications / all steps
  • Effective October 1, 2027: 3% for all classifications / all steps 

Current employees will receive retroactive wage payments for the 2024 and 2025 wage increases, and HSAA will update members on the deposit date by early next week.

Former employees who are eligible for retroactive wage payments will also receive information on how to apply early next week.

In addition, there were many other gains in your new collective agreement, including but not limited to: 

  • Professional development days: 3 paid days per year for education/training.
  • Long Service Pay: employees with 20 years of service will receive an additional 2% to their basic rate of pay.
  • New workload appeal process to raise ongoing, systemic, or long-term workload concerns.
  • Professional fee reimbursement of up to $504/yr for regular employees who have worked 810 hours.
  • Enhancements to the Benefit Plan, including:
    • Diabetic supplies: Deletion of 12-month insulin dependency limitation for flash glucose meters and deletion of requirement for a written order for diabetic equipment.
    • Massage therapy: $75 per visit to max of $1000/yr (previously $50).
