Your Bargaining Committee met with Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) on May 6 and 7 to continue discussions on monetary proposals, excluding wages.
Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to move things forward, very little progress was made. While the Employer appeared much more prepared and came in with several Counter Proposals, upon closer review, the counterproposals were recycled concessions; ones we’ve already made clear we will not accept and were again rejected.
Your committee cannot bargain alone while APL continues to drag its feet. We believe they are intentionally stalling progress while waiting to see what unfolds at the Alberta Health Services (AHS) bargaining table with HSAA members, which is now entering formal mediation.
You deserve a stronger effort from your employer, and as such, we are preparing new strategies to pressure APL to speed up negotiations ahead of the next round of talks.
We know members are growing increasingly frustrated, and so is your committee. We are ready and willing to negotiate as often as possible, but APL has yet to provide any future dates. We are waiting for confirmation of additional bargaining dates.
Despite the challenges, we did sign off on two items:
- Article 4 – Recognition of Union Business (with improvements)
- Letter of Understanding #8 – Guidelines of Determination of Requirement to Provide an Automobile (renewed as-is)
Your committee remains committed to securing the best deal possible for members, without rollbacks or concessions that weaken your rights or working conditions.
