APL Bargaining Update #10

Your Bargaining Committee met with Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) on September 9, 10, and 11 to continue negotiations.

While the overall tone at the table remained respectful and some progress was made, the employer’s initial wage proposal fell far below expectations. After months of waiting, APL’s opening offer does NOT reflect the value of your work for Albertans and is not acceptable to your committee.

We remain firmly focused on the mandate you gave us: securing meaningful improvements to total compensation and better benefits and working conditions for all members.

In terms of progress, we were able to sign off on several articles and letters:

Article 18 – Temporary Assignments (with improvements)

Article 23 – Sick Leave (with improvements)

Article 26 – Pension (renewed as-is)

Article 30 – Layoff and Recall (renewed with updates)

Article 31 – Technological Change (renewed as-is)

Article 34 – In-Service Programs (renewed as-is)

Article 49 – Critical Incident Management (renewed as-is)

LOU 2 – Severance (renewed as-is)

LOU 24 – Transitional Provisions for Employees Moving into the HSAA Bargaining Unit (with improvements)

New LOU – Employment Insurance Premium Reductions (newly signed)

Future bargaining dates were originally held for October 1, 2, and 3. Unfortunately, the employer is not available on these dates. We are now in process of confirming our next dates for October 22 & 23rd 2025.

We continue to review every possible avenue to achieve meaningful progress at the table, including the potential for informal mediation should bargaining reach an impasse.
