Thank-you HSAA members!
By participating in rallies, sending MLA letters, sharing our social media campaign ads, creating your own social media statements and having conversations with each other, you have successfully raised awareness and shown that you are unified in your willingness to act for an improved tentative agreement that will help us with retention and recruitment.
Over the last week, HSAA leadership met with the government and the employer. We brought forward the member feedback received through town halls, emails, social media and conversations about the reasons for the recent failed ratification vote.
Both parties expressed a desire to get back to bargaining as soon as possible.
We thank the original bargaining committee for their work over many challenging months.
We have agreed to the following next steps:
- A focused bargaining committee with 3-4 individuals from each side. The HSAA representatives will consist of:
- Vice President
- Former bargaining committee Chair
- Director of Labour Relations
- Lead Negotiator or designate
- The formal mediation process will resume with anticipated dates in late October.
- Selection of bargaining dates are in progress.
- This round of bargaining will focus on a select few items in addition to the previous tentative agreement.
We are continuing to prepare for potential job action. If talks break down, we will immediately ask the mediator to write out and we will proceed to a strike vote as soon as the legal process allows.
We thank you for your patience in waiting for an update on the bargaining process, and your support in helping us raise awareness about the critical roles HSAA members play in providing health care to Albertans.
We will keep you apprised with details and next steps.
Mike Parker, HSAA President
Leanne Alfaro, HSAA Vice-President
