Happy Labour Day 2025!

Members,

On Labour Day, we recognize the contributions of the working people who keep our province moving forward. It’s an important reminder of the power of solidarity for protecting our rights, fighting for fairness and building better workplaces.

For us, it’s also a celebration of the 30,000 health care professionals who care for Albertans every day in our hospitals, health centres, labs, clinics, ambulances, and communities. Every shift, you make patients healthier, you make our health system stronger, and together, you make our union a force for good.

This past year, we have grown stronger by growing together. Across the province, HSAA members have stepped up in record numbers. We’re creating more active local units, electing more stewards, and engaging more members in every discipline and across every part of our province. Your energy and commitment are what make us so powerful. When we step up, speak out, and stand together, we’re not just building a stronger union, we’re building a stronger health system for all.

The rights and protections we have today did not come easily. They were won by generations of health professionals and workers who endured struggle, challenged the status quo, and refused to be ignored. We carry that legacy forward today.

On this Labour Day, we are proud of what we have achieved together, and prouder still of the care our members provide across Alberta.

To our members who are spending the holiday away from the workplace: you deserve this rest. If you have the opportunity, please join your fellow workers at any of the Labour Day parades, barbecues and events held across Alberta to show your support and celebrate your role in our labour movement.

To our members who are spending the holiday caring for Albertans: thank you for showing up when you’re needed most. While others gather with family and friends, we know that’s only possible because you are there for Albertans, running tests, dispensing medication, saving lives, and providing expert care at every step. Your dedication is the best example of what Labour Day truly represents—the dignity of work, the strength of solidarity, and the commitment to serve others.

Happy Labour Day!
