Help Alberta’s Health-Care Professionals Sound the Alarm on the Overdose Crisis
Help Alberta’s Health-Care Professionals Sound the Alarm on the Overdose Crisis
Alberta is in a drug-poisoning crisis. People are dying every day and we need to act.
Yet the Alberta government has only one response: a one-size-fits-all, abstinence-only approach to addiction treatment and recovery. Tragically, only offering one kind of treatment for addiction care doesn’t work. It is costing lives.
We need to do more to end the crisis.
The government’s own data shows that drug poisoning is killing more Albertans than ever before. Health-care professionals on the frontlines see the deadly consequences of the government’s approach every single day.
The government’s one-size-fits-all strategy has failed, and they haven’t listened to health-care professionals.
Health-care professionals are pleading for the government to treat the addiction crisis for what it is: a health-care crisis. The government needs to do more to prevent overdose deaths.
Health-care professionals are advocating for solutions:
- Offer multiple treatment options, including harm reduction services.
- Make care available across the province.
- Deliver treatment through public health care, using trained health-care professionals.
Addiction care is health care.
It’s time to listen to health-care professionals and put evidence-based care first. Add your name to join together with health-care professionals and call for change.
